Syringe Pump

Medical syringe pumps are used to administer small amounts of liquid medication gradually to patients. At predetermined times, they dispense the medicine using specific flow rates over the course of several minutes to several hours. They assist in reducing medication errors while also saving time and freeing up the medical staff to manage other aspects of patient care.

Connected Functional Safety Syringe Pump/Auto Injector Demonstration Board

Our syringe pump demo motor driver board features the 8-bit PIC16F1778 microcontroller (MCU), the MTS2916A motor driver, the LX3301A inductive sensor interface IC, the RN4871 Bluetooth® Low Energy (LE) module and the MCP1703 Low Dropout (LDO) regulator. This demo also utilizes our PIC16 Class B functional safety software library. This reference design can be applied to a variety of syringe pump applications, from small handheld autoinjectors to full-size hospital syringe pumps.

The demo has the following functions:

  • PIC16 Class B functional safety software library
  • Dual, full-bridge Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) motor driver capable of driving all types of stepper motors
  • Detection of the syringe’s diameter
  • Detection of the syringe plunger’s linear position
  • User interface with push buttons and OLED
  • Bluetooth LE connectivity
  • Air bubble detection
