There are several types of medical drug delivery pumps. For example, an infusion pump is a medical device used to deliver fluids into a patient’s body in a controlled manner. There are many different types of infusion pumps, which are used for in a variety of environments and for a variety of purposes. Infusion pumps can deliver fluids in large or small amounts, and may be used to deliver nutrients or medications – such as insulin or other hormones, antibiotics, chemotherapy drugs, and pain relievers.

A relatively new type of medical drug delivery pump is the MEMS piezoelectric micro pump. This type of pump offers an attractive alternative to standard pumps that have traditionally been used in precision controlled drug delivery devices, such as infusion pumps, insulin pumps or nebulizers. MEMS piezoelectric micro pumps offer the benefits of being small, lightweight, low power, low cost and accurate. Micro pumps are now being used for applications such as transdermal insulin delivery; antithrombogenic blood transportation, injection of glucose for diabetes patients, administration of neurotransmitters to neurons and for chemical/biological sensing.

We Have What Medical Pump Designers Need

  • Microcontrollers (MCUs) with Core Independent Peripherals that are designed to handle tasks with no code or supervision from the MCU’s core in order to maintain operation
  • Core Independent Peripherals can shorten the development time of complex control systems, reduce the design’s component count, board size and power consumption
  • MCUs that are optimized for controlling motors provide the integration needed to reduce system cost while increasing efficiency and control
  • Highly integrated high-voltage DC/DC controllers and push-pull drivers that cost effectively drive piezoelectric micro pump-based devices that are used for drug delivery and other medical applications
  • Lower BOM cost and less design complexity enabled by integration of coherent peripherals, like built-in LCD drive, touch-sensing capability and other associated features in most of our popular MCU families
  • A complete family of eXtreme Low Power (XLP) technology MCUs with sleep currents as low as 9 nA and run currents down to 30 μA/MHz
  • Cost-effective, low-risk options to add wireless capability using our wireless controllers and modules
