IP Set-Top Box

With a growing offering of broadcast and on-demand entertainment services, consumers are widely adopting IP Set-Top Box (STB) platforms to enjoy these services. An IP STB provides digital television services via internet protocol (IP) traffic over a broadband network infrastructure. This IP traffic is commonly transported using an Ethernet based connectivity.

A low cost IP STB supporting basic functionality uses a single Ethernet connection enabled using an Ethernet PHY device, while a premium IP STB supporting enhanced functionality uses multiple Ethernet connections for delivery of interactive and broadcast services enabled using an Ethernet switch device. For both types of IP STB platforms, an Ethernet based network connection is essential for delivery of high-quality and high-definition content.
