As security cameras get increasingly deployed, there is a need to centrally aggregate, process, and provide storage of their video images while providing remote management capability. This function is provided by platforms such as Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) and Network Video Recorders (NVRs). A DVR platform is commonly used with analog cameras while the NVR platform is used with digital IP cameras. Both of these platforms provide Ethernet networking capability enabled by an Ethernet PHY device. Additionally, in case of a NVR, an Ethernet switch is also sometimes used for enabling a direct Ethernet network connections to the digital IP cameras.
Microchip offers a broad, industry-leading portfolio of 10/100 Mbps and 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet PHY and switch solutions that are high-performance, application feature optimized, have small footprints and leverage the innovative EtherGREEN™ platform, providing flexible options to minimize power consumption for emerging DVR and NVR applications.
