Digital power supplies are becoming more common as developers look for ways to simplify their power-supply design, increase overall efficiency, easily make modifications and meet power-quality standards and regulatory requirements. Digital Switch-Mode Power Supplies (SMPS) meet these complex design requirements and enable system miniaturization in telecom, networking, server, automotive Electric Vehicle (EV) and a variety of other applications.
dsPIC® Digital Signal Controllers (DSCs) are designed to support power flow control of advanced topologies and implementation of adaptive nonlinear algorithms for front-end power factor control converters and isolated DC-DC converters. You can use the same dsPIC DSC to implement power management, system monitoring and protection, and communication functions.
In collaboration with the Efficient Power Conversion (EPC) Corporation, we offer a series of dsPIC33C DSC-based evaluation boards for 1/16th brick, bi-directional, three-level synchronous, LLC 1/8th brick and other DC-to-DC topologies.
The 4SW-BB development board enables rapid prototyping and code development based on dsPIC33 DSCs. It supports an input voltage range of 8 to 18V and delivers a max output power of 20W.
This design supports 350–420 Vdc input and 12V DC output with high-voltage isolation between the primary and the secondary. High efficiency is achieved through Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) on the half-bridge converter and Zero Current Switching (ZCS) on the synchronous rectifier.
This reference design provides an easy method to evaluate the power and features of SMPS dsPIC33 DSCs in high-density quarter brick DC-DC converters for Intermediate Bus Architectures (IBAs).
This demo application utilizes a dsPIC33C MPT secure DSC or dsPIC33C DSC in conjunction with the TA100 CryptoAutomotive™ security IC to implement the Security Protocol and Data Model (SPDM) specification. This enables a digital power solution that satisfies the security requirements for an OCP-compliant power supply.
