Are you looking to design a remote monitoring or tracking Internet of Things (IoT) application? Our cellular solution is an excellent option for connecting moving devices or devices that are located in remote areas with limited availability of LoRa® long-range networks or other Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) solutions.
Adding secure cellular connectivity to an IoT device can be challenging because of the design complexities and high deployment costs. Our development board is a great starting point for your project. You can reduce your Bill of Materials (BoM) and speed up your time to market by leveraging the flexibility of the Core Independent Peripherals (CIPs) on the 8-bit AVR® microcontroller (MCU), the security features of the on-board CryptoAuthentication™ device, plus the easy-to-implement cellular connectivity.
The AVR-IoT Cellular Mini Development Board allows you to prototype secure cellular IoT applications quickly. Designed for professionals and makers, the board features an AVR128DB48 microcontroller (MCU) and an ATECC608B CryptoAuthentication™ device. The ATECC608B device can be configured with the IoT Provisioning Tool to connect securely to Amazon Web Services (AWS).
The AVR-IoT Cellular Mini Development Board is fully Arduino® compatible. The AVR-IoT Cellular Arduino Library provides HTTP(s), MQTT, low power and other functions. The board, which fits the Adafruit Feather form factor, also features a Qwiic/Stemma I2C connector that makes it easy to add functionality.
Extensive documentation of both the board and the Arduino library is available at https://iot.microchip.com/docs, including
At the heart of the board's connectivity stack is a cellular module that enables low-power, low-data-rate connectivity from any area covered by a cellular provider. The kit comes with a prepaid SIM card from Truphone, with coverage in more than 200 countries and territories around the globe.
Truphone's groundbreaking eSIM technology allows for seamless reprogramming, so IoT applications can be network agnostic while maintaining a strong network of global coverage. With a fully functional API that allows you to control multiple devices and plans, this ecosystem of solutions lends itself to scalability and future-proof IoT devices.
The AVR128DB48 MCU is designed with analog signal conditioning and multi-voltage operation in mind. With its low-power features and a robust set of peripherals, this MCU is an excellent choice for IoT and sensor node applications.
Our ATECC608B is an easy-to-use secure element that provides even the smallest MCUs with the Elliptic Curve Diffie Hellman (ECDH) security protocol. This protocol, when paired with Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA), enables sign-verify authentication for IoT applications.
