Enable Modern and Safe Human Machine Interface (HMI) Systems With Our maXTouch® and GestIC® Technologies

Enhance your product with additional features beyond simple touchscreen HMI systems. You can easily add proximity detection to enable additional functions such as system wake-up or offer air gestures that allow the user to safely interact with the system without needing to touch the screen. Our two-chip solution that combines controllers featuring our maXTouch touchscreen technology and GestIC technology enables you to create a totally new user experience. You can connect both controllers to the same host using the same I2C serial interface with two different slave addresses.

Both controllers are AEC-Q100 qualified with temperature ranges up to +105°C (maXTouch technology) and +125°C (GestIC technology).

Key Features

  • Up to 20 cm proximity detection
  • Up to 12 cm 3D air gesture support
  • 2D touchscreens up to 17" (mXT2912TG) or 13" (mXT2113TG)
  • Differential mutual sensing that supports thick, multi-finger gloves
  • Thick, glass-equivalent cover lens up to 10 mm (5 mm PMMA)
  • CISPR 25 Level 5 support for automobile electromagnetic interference
  • AEC-Q100 automotive quality certified

Target Applications

  • Automotive center consoles: add gesture controls for performing common operations such as answering a phone call, adjusting audio volume or changing cabin temperature
  • Public-facing touchscreens: reduce virus transmission risk on devices such as POS terminals, food/drink dispensers, vending machines, car/bike/scooter/boat rental terminals, elevators and fitness equipment)
  • Gesture controls for home electronics: enhance convenience and cleanliness of kitchen appliances, thermostats, alarm panels and smart speakers/displays

How Does It Work?

The block digram below demonstrates the simplicity of the circuit. In the 2D touch mode, the mXT2912TG (for touchscreens up to 17") or the mXT2113TG (touchscreens up to 13")  perform the 2D touch acquistion. In 3D proximity mode, the entire touchscreen is the emitting X electrode driven by the maXTouch touchscreen controller. Four additional Y elecrodes connected to the GestIC technology controller will detect any approaching movement and/or air gestures. Both controllers communicate the values through the I2C bus to the host controller.
